How did the group start?

Whilst C. Mestre Israel was in Salvador, he was invited to a Capoeira Batizado at the Church: Igreja Apostólica Renascer em Cristo. Interested to see what a Batizado would be like in a Church, Israel went along and afterwards maintained contact with the group. The instructor of the group at that time was too busy with his dealings in the Church and so the group asked Israel to run the classes. After some time, and after some T-shirts had been printed, the group eventually desseminated. As Israel found the name 'Renascer' very intriguing for a Capoeira Group, (reborn), he spoke to the Bishop of the Church and with permission decided to keep the name, the T-Shirts,and the people who already trained with him, and thus became Group Renascer.

Today the group is still there in Salvador, in the town of Liberdade at the Associação de Moradores da Meireles with Formados: Tiago, Jailson, Bam and Instructors: Zézeu Faísca and Cachiado.
