The Group Renascer                                                                                     Deus é fiel.

How did the group start?

Whilst C. Mestre Israel was in Salvador, he was invited to a Capoeira Batizado at the Church: Igreja Apostólica Renascer em Cristo. Interested to see what a Batizado would be like in a Church, Israel went along and afterwards maintained contact with the group. The instructor of the group at that time was too busy with his dealings in the Church and so the group asked Israel to run the classes. After some time, and after some T-shirts had been printed, the group eventually desseminated. As Israel found the name 'Renascer' very intriguing for a Capoeira Group, (reborn), he spoke to the Bishop of the Church and with permission decided to keep the name, the T-Shirts,and the people who already trained with him, and thus became Group Renascer.

Today the group is still there in Salvador, at the College Duque de Caxias in the town of Liberdade and at Associação de Moradores da Meireles on the town of Perovaz with Formados: Tiago, Jailson, Bam and Instructors: Zézeu Faísca and Cachiado.

In the last ten years Israel has been involved in many big events and organizations in the UK such as; South Intercultural Arts, Cardiff Carnival, No Fit State Circus and I.L.E.A.P. (Inclusive Leisure, Education and Activities Project), as well as working with people with mental and physical disabilities.

Instructor Zezéu, Formado Bam, Formado Jailson and Formado Tiago. They are the front line of the Group Renascer Salvador.

In both Salvador and the UK Israel has been in many schools including: Colegio Estadual João XXIII, Duque de Caxias, Luis Viana, CEFET, Anísio Texeira, Escolinha Rainha da Paz, Kings Norton Girls School, Arrow Vale High School, King Edward VI, Studly High School, Leicester College and many more.

Our belt system is based on the grading system of Grupo Internacional de Capoeira Topázio (where our roots are). We use the same traditional colours but the only difference is that the red and white belt is not Mestre yet, but a second stage of Contra Mestre and we use the traditional white belt as the Mestre belt.
